It’s the calm before the storm, guys. That’s how I’d best describe these five days we have between approval of the design proposal and close of escrow on the newest addition to the Arrivls collection of in-house curated properties. This project is a new twist for me, though, because the homeowner is my Uncle Steve! I’m so excited to design this house for him and I know it’s going to make an incredible vacation rental once we put our spin on it.
We have a blank slate to work with at this house since it was purchased unfurnished, but we decided to take the whites, tans, warm greys and wood tones from the kitchen and incorporate them throughout the house to create a cozy and peaceful vibe. All of the beige interior walls are getting a fresh coat of white to brighten up the space.
For the living room we’ll purchase an extra deep sofa and love seat (the kind you can curl up in, ya know?), two side chairs and a large coffee table. We also plan to tile the fireplace surround!

The master bedroom will have an upholstered, king size bed from Zinus and a mixture of wood tones in the side tables, lamps and accent pieces. I’m currently all about the extra-long lumbar pillow trend and will be getting a few from Homies Decor for the bedrooms (she’s an LA-based designer who not only makes the most gorgeous pillows but her name is Kylie, too, sooo obviously I love to support her!). I’ll also be experimenting with an idea for wall decor with dried palm tree fronds which could either turn out amazing or be a complete disaster. Fingers crossed it’s the former.

In the second bedroom we’ll be purchasing this low profile, upholstered, grey bed with a rounded headboard, white side tables with rattan pendant lights above them. We’ll also have a neutral area rug plus cozy pillows and blankets.

If you’re sensing a trend with Zinus beds so far in this house, then you won’t be surprised that we picked out this dusty-blue beauty for the third guest bedroom. We’ll also be purchasing nightstands and a pair of plug-in wall sconces.

That’s it for mood boards for today, friends! Follow along as we get to work on this property next week!
