Here are few things we want to try this summer!
Kayak Fishing with San Dog
At the top of our summer bucket list is an fishing tour with San Dog Kayak Adventures. San Dog provides all of the gear (kayak, rods & reels, turbo fins & paddle, life vest, dry bag & marine radio) and will expertly guide you from the meeting spot to the fishing grounds. They have several locations to choose from, each with varying levels of difficulty and types of fish. They even offer multi-day fishing charters to Ensenada!
Taste of Little Italy
A perfect way to kick off the summer is with the 13th annual Taste of Little Italy. Visitors can explore the 48 square blocks of Little Italy while sampling tastes from the area’s award winning restaurants. This year, the event will be held over two days, with two time slots, allowing plenty of room for attendees and minimizing congestion. Tickets can be purchased online for $50 per person in advance, or for $55 after June 15th.
Home Grown Fun at the Del Mar Fair
No San Diego summer is complete without an annual trip to the Del Mar Fair! And while it may look a little different than years past, many of the crowd favorites will be returning – like the ferris wheel, Agri-land for the kids and, of course, allll the fried food. This year’s theme, “Home Grown”, will add a twist to the fair’s summer concert series which will feature all local artists. The San Diego County Fair will run June 11–July 4 from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m.; the fair is closed on Mondays and Tuesdays.

Current capacity limits at Petco Park are limited to 33% and 67% in designated seating sections where fans are either fully vaccinated or show proof of a negative COVID-19 test. But, starting on June 17, Petco Park will be open at 100% capacity! Win or lose, Padre’s games are always a good time, but fair-weather fans can still come for the food! The park is loaded with some of San Diego’s favorite eateries like Pizza Port, Hodad’s and even Seaside Market’s Tri-Tip (aka “Cardiff Crack”) Nachos. 😋
Movies on the Bay
Catch a free, family-friendly movie on the sand at the Catamaran Resort in Mission Beach. Movies are shown on a large projector screen overlooking Mission Bay every Monday, Wednesday and Sunday at dusk. This location is perfect if you’re staying at one of our Mission Beach vacation rental properties (Makai South, Makai North, Rockaway South, Rockaway North) which are just a quick stroll down the boardwalk!

Cheers to June Gloom
In celebration of California’s “reopening”, Gravity Heights is bringing back their popular Hazy IPA, June Gloom. You’ll find us in their outdoor beer garden this summer sharing plates from their “munchies” menu and sampling from their small-batch craft beers on tap.
Sunset Paddle Boarding
Watch the sunset while paddle boarding around Mission Bay with WanderSurf Board Company. With lights on each paddle board and expert guidance, you’ll be able to confidently navigate the calm evening waters after the boats have been docked for the day. WanderSurf also offers morning and daytime tours along with both private and group paddle board lessons.
Public fire pits in Mission Beach are “reserved” quickly, especially in the summer months. They also may be a bit of a walk from your vacation rental, from which you’d be lugging your chairs, beach blankets, cooler, and maybe even your kids. Take the stress out of the experience with Beach Fire Guy! You pick your location and they do the rest – including the clean up. The standard package is the bonfire set-up/tear-down and 3 hours of wood, but you can purchase upgrades like Adirondack chairs, s’mores ingredients, glow-in-the-dark cornhole and even an acoustic guitar player.
