Summer Temperatures At Schweitzer

The summer months on Schweitzer Mountain are cool and perfect for outdoor activities. During June, you’ll find daytime temperatures max out in the mid-to-high 60s and lows can dip into the 30s.  July and August bring daytime temperatures in the mid-70s and lows in the 40s.

Red Fir Hideaway

Red Fir Hideaway is a two-structure Arrivls property on the Hope Peninsula that offers a 3 bedroom, 3 bathroom main house plus a guest cabin. The Best Summer Activities At Schweitzer Mountain

During the summer months, this ski town turns into a playground of outdoor adventure! There are so many fun summer activities at Schweitzer Mountain that you may not know where to begin. Let us help! 

1. Scenic Chairlift Rides 

You’ll head to the stunning summit of Schweitzer where you can see three different states and even into Canada on this beautiful, scenic chairlift ride. Keep an eye out for wildlife like moose and deer as you take a gentle ride over sweeping views of Lake Pend Oreille and fields of stunning wildflowers. The summit has some other amazing activities, listed below, making the scenic chairlift ride to the top perfect!

2. Mountain Biking At Schweitzer 

Whether you are looking for a scenic, easy trail ride or you are a downhill junky, Schweitzer Mountain has a trail for every skill level of mountain biker. The mountain has over 40 miles of trail that offer different types of mountain biking terrain.

How about a downhill thrill? All downhill trails begin at the Great Escape Quad and descend around 1700 feet to the village below. 

Wanting even more of a challenge? Try your hand at the challenging and fun Highpoint Trail that connects Schweitzer to the Little Sand Creek Basin for 4000 vertical feet of trail.

3. Zip Lining 

Zip Lining at Schweitzer Mountain is the perfect adventure for the whole family. It allows you to see the amazingly beautiful mountain from above. If you’ve never tried ziplining, this course is a great introduction. Zip over 700 feet with your family and friends as you enjoy the thrill of gliding through the air. All zip lining is weather-permitting and you can either purchase a single ride or a full-day fun pass.

4. Horseback Riding 

If you’re looking for a relaxing way to enjoy the outdoors at Schweitzer Mountain, then a leisurely horseback ride is perfect for you. The local guide is Mountain Horse Adventures and they will take you through beautiful forests on the back of their stunning horses. All rides begin in Schweitzer Village and meander out to a special location that you will love. These horseback rides are perfect for all riding abilities but are reserved for those 10 years of age or older. Helmets are required and provided by the stables, and you’ll need to wear close toed shoes and long pants.

5. Disc Golf 

There are two disc golf courses at Schweitzer Mountain, one in the village (Lower Course) and one at the summit (Upper Course).  With a total of 18 holes, these disc golf courses begin in the village and work their way to the summit. There are several ways to reach the summit for the upper course, you can hike using the Nature Trail or take the scenic chairlift ride (see above). Feel free to bring your own golf discs to play or you can easily rent a disc for just $5 from the Activity Center.

6. Hiking Schweitzer Mountain

Schweitzer has some incredible hiking opportunities, and whether you are looking for a family stroll through the woods or a heart-pounding challenge, you will find it here. You’ll wander through fields of wildflowers, and old-growth forests, but be sure to keep an eye out for the local wildlife while on trail. The Summer Activity Center has hiking maps for the mountains and the most popular trail in the park is: 

Schweitzer Nature Trail

Distance: 5.2 miles

Rating: Moderate

Elevation Gain: 1,699

By far the most popular trail on Schweitzer Mountain, the Nature Trail is moderate leaning toward strenuous according to most hikers. Don’t let that stop you from hiking this trail that has unparalleled views as you climb to the top. Sturdy, waterproof shoes are highly recommended for this hike. 

Other trails to check out include Stewart’s Loop (0.3 miles) and Summit View Loop (0.5 miles). 

7. Geocaching 

If you aren’t familiar with geocaching, it’s a great family-friendly activity that resembles a modern-day treasure hunt. Instead of gold, you’ll be finding the geocaches and logging that you found them. Schweitzer Mountain is home to numerous geocaches just waiting for you to find them! The Summer Activity Center has all of the information you will need for finding the geocaches. 

8. Relaxing Massages

After all of the outdoor fun at Schweitzer Mountain, if you’re feeling like a spa day is in order, you’re in luck! The petite studio is located right in Schweitzer Village where they offer a plethora of different relaxing massages. Options include hot stone massages, deep tissue massages, and rejuvenating foot treatments.

9. Trampoline Jumper Fun

Both parents and kids can have a blast on the trampoline jumper on Schweitzer Mountain. You’ll be fitted with a harness and attached to a system of bungee cords allowing you to fully experience all that the trampoline jumper has to offer and helping you get to even great heights, how cool! Do back flips, front flips, and jump as high as you can until your heart’s content. There is a minimum and a maximum weight.

10. Huckleberry Picking

If you’ve never had huckleberry before you can expect a tart, sweet, and tangy treat with these berries that grow all over this region of Idaho. You can find huckleberries on some of Schweitzer’s hiking trails, or take the huckleberry shuttle that takes you to special spots where these delicious berries are known to grow. This is a great family activity and the perfect way to spend a morning on the mountain.
