Although the distance may seem daunting the trail is both kid and dog friendly. This is known as one of the most serene lakes in North Idaho and is well worth the trek. During the summer months sunscreen and bug spray are recommended. 

4. Huckleberry Picking

Have you ever had a huckleberry? They are delicious! In the summertime you’ll find huckleberry ice cream, jam, pies, pancakes, and a whole lot of other sweet treats in North Idaho. Huckleberries grow all over Idaho, but there are several great places to pick them close to Red Fir Hideaway. If you’re looking for picking hotspots during your stay then head to Ponderosa State Park in McCall, Huckleberry Creek in the Sawtooth Mountains or Priest Lake. Red Fir Hideaway is only about 30 minutes from Sandpoint, a charming mountain town with a ton of tourist appeal. The entire town is like a picture-perfect postcard, as it’s surrounded by the peaks of the Rocky Mountains. Outdoor activities abound, but that’s not all that draws visitors to Sandpoint.
