Valentine’s Day Ideas in San Diego

By Kylee Niederhauser

Valentine’s Day is just around the corner, so we’ve put together some of our favorite ideas for a romantic date in San Diego county.

A Movie on the Sand

Movie theater dates are so 2019. How about treating your Valentine to a bay-front movie instead? Seaside Cinema sets the stage for you with a menu of options like Bali on the Bay (shown below) or Classic Cinema and encourages patrons to “be extra” with add-ons like charcuterie grazing boards and movie theater-style snack boxes. Seaside also offers more traditional picnic options during the daytime hours.

This would be the perfect setup for guests of our Mission Beach properties – you’d only need to walk to the bay!

Enjoy the Views from Sunset Cliffs

Sunset Cliffs Natural Park is a 68-acre nature park that stretches along the coastline in Point Loma. The best places to catch a killer sunset here are from Pappy’s Point and Luscomb’s Point.

After the sun has set, you can stop by one of our favorite Italian spots, Cesarina in Point Loma, for delicious homemade pasta and other Italian favorites.

Make a Romantic Meal at Home

While we’re hopeful that restaurants will soon re-open for indoor dining, I personally have never been a fan of eating out on Valentine’s Day anyway. Why not have a nice, romantic meal at home (or in one of our Arrivls vacation rentals) instead?

Seaside Market in Cardiff-by-the-Sea is your one-stop shop for creating the perfect meal for your sweetheart. Seaside is a boutique grocery, deli, seafood and catering market. It’s stocked with quality and products, many of which are regionally made. IMO, their famous tri-tip alone (which local’s have named “Cardiff Crack”) is worth the drive to North County.

If you really want to keep things simple, they also offer a 5-course, Valentine’s Dinner for Two. You can make selections from their menu of pre-cooked dishes like an Artisan Cheese and Charcuterie Board, Salmon Croquettes, Country Goat Cheese Salad, Surf & Turf and Chocolate Covered Strawberries. Wine pairings also available. Orders should be placed in advance through their website.

Take a Hike

Couples who sweat together, stay together. That’s a saying, right? Either way, a hike sounds like a great way to spend some quality time together outdoors. And San Diego has so many options to choose from!

One of my personal favorites is the Torrey Pines Beach Trail Loop, shown below, but we’ve recapped a full list of stand-out San Diego hikes in this blog post as well!

Book a Getaway, or a Stay-Cation!

If you really want to impress your Valentine, book a stay in one of our San Diego vacation rentals. With locations throughout San Diego county from Mission Beach, to Solana Beach, to Carlsbad, you’re sure to find a place to fit your needs.
