With nearly 125 courses in the area, you won’t find a shortage of golf options here, and when you add the mountain and desert vista backdrop you’ll be hard-pressed to find more beauty while waiting for your tee time. These 5 golf experiences put a new spin on traditional golf, perfect for your next trip to the Coachella Valley!
Night Golf
Night golf is a fun and unique way to tee off in Coachella Valley. One of the courses that offer night golf is The Lights at Indio Golf Course. This facility is perfect for golfers of all levels and is great for those looking for a fun golfing experience in the desert.
Another great option for night golfing is “Shots In The Night” at Indian Wells Golf Resort. They offer two different night time experiences including The Putting Experience and Glow Golf Range. Shots in the night begins a half hour after sunset on Thursday – Saturday evenings.

Foot Golf
FootGolf is a sport where players kick an association football (soccer ball) into a cup in as few shots as possible. This is a precision game that combines soccer and golf. If that sounds like fun, you’re in luck, Coachella Valley has several options. Tahquitz Creek is an official course for the American FootGolf League.
A second option for FootGolf is The Lights At Indio Golf Course. They were the very first Coachella Valley AFGL accredited FootGolf course. For the FootGolf league the tee time is 6 pm, but walk-ons are also welcome.
Golf Board
GolfBoard is a motorized scooter that allows you to traverse the course in a way that’s similar to surfing or skating. Indian Wells Golf Resort offers GolfBoarding to make your next golf experience more fun. GolfBoard rentals are per board per 18 holes. Make sure to reserve early because they have a limited supply of 8 GolfBoards.
You can also surf the links at Hawk’s Landing, where the GolfBoards are powered by environmentally friendly lithium ion batteries. These boards will bring a whole new level of fun and excitement for golfers of all ages.
Disc Golf
Similar to traditional golf, the basic rules of disc golf are to get your disc from a tee box into a basket with the least number of throws (or strokes). The player with the least number of strokes in a round (18 holes) wins. Weekend visitors can join the Palm Desert Disc Golf Club for some friendly, local competition every Sunday night at Hovley Soccer Park in Palm Desert. Visit the club’s website or Facebook page for up-to-date event information.
Details: $6 entry. $1 goes to Palm Desert Disc Golf Club. $1 goes to ace pot. $4 goes to winner cash prize pool. Every player receives a handicap based on average score. Closest to the pin prizes and two additional short runs at the ace pot after the round!
